Spring Is Almost Here

Report Date: March 14, 2017

Spring is almost here and fishing is starting to heat up right along with the weather. Well, I have to say that this has been one of the warmest winters I can remember, with temperatures already in the 70s. In February, some of the fish that normally show up in the spring were already here: kingfish, Spanish mackerel, cobia and blackfin tuna. Sharks and barracudas will also be here soon. Trolling with live bait works best. Grouper and snapper are our year-round target sea bass and porgies are always mixed in during the cooler months. Mangrove snapper and gag grouper are mainly found on ledges offshore. Live or cut bait will work for both.
